Say Hey There

My intention in creating this blog is a way for me to stay active as an artist as well as stay inspired while working my dull, cushy nine to five government job. I have kept a sketch book and a set of microns in my desk drawer from day one, and have taken it upon myself to do at least one sketch a day while at work. Which has proven to be very interesting for the following reasons:

1.) Time is an issue: There is work to be done, and im not one to let the ball drop and let others pay the price just so I can doodle. However, there are stretches of the day when things slow down and thats when the sketchbook comes out.

2.) I work with nosy, paper pushing, government drones that love to get up in other peoples shit. Some of whom it seems are threatened by creativity, and anything that strays from the norm. This being said im not eager to let them see my work. So I keep it out of view the best I can, which is a challenge within itself. Throughout the months however I have found ways to do my drawings while giving off the impression that I am hard at work.

3.) Drawing under these circumstances takes me out of my comfort zone as an artist: I am use to creating art in a secluded environment, where time is not an issue and rabble rousing employees aren't observing and analyzing my every move. I pay close attention to detail, and love stepping back from my work and staring at it for extended periods of time, until I know what I want to do next. I do not have these luxuries while at work, so I see it as an opportunity to truly express myself and communicate to my audience (if there is one) The feelings and emotions that are stirred up inside me while im on the job.

The outcome of these work doodles have shown to be significantly different from the compositions I do in my free time. The process is different, the results are bazar at times, but the substance is there and I look forward to sharing and writing about it.

I plan to post a new sketch everday as well as write a short blurb about it. I might write about daily observations that stand out in my mind, or strange interactions among my coworkers. The possibilities are endless and Im very enthusiastic about it. Blogging is a new concept for me, so I myself am interested as well as unsure of what it might lead to.
